Earl G. Helie - April 17, 1923 - Oct. 19, 1988
 

Earl G. Helie, 65, of 92 Lat Lane, West Swanzey, died Wednesday evening at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene.

He was born in Providence, R.I., April 17, 1923, son of Oscar and Floreida (Beland) Helie, and had lived in Keene for many years before moving to West Swanzey a year ago.

Mr. Helie had been employed as general manager of Avlite Industries in Marlborough for the past 14 years. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the North Atlantic with the U.S. Navy.

He was a member of the Gordon-Bissell American Legion Post 4 of Keene, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 799 of Keene, and a member of St. Bernard's Church in Keene.

Survivors include his wife, Eleanor M. (Hanley) Helie of West Swanzey; two sons, Michael D. Helie and Wayne E. Helie, both of Keene; two daughters, Cheryl D. Smith and Karen L. Porter, both of Keene; two brothers, Norman Helie of Roxbury and Robert Helie of West Swanzey; three sisters, Anita Desjardins of Winchester, Elaine Duquette of Marlow and Lucille White of Winchester; three grandchildren, Denise Miller, Christine Miller and Chad Porter, all of Keene; several nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Church, Main Street, Keene.  Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Keene.

Calling hours are tonight and Friday night from 7 to 9 at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street., Keene.

 Eleanor M. (Hanley) Helie, 92, of Winchester, passed away on April 19, 2019, at the Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, surrounded by the love and support of her family, She was born in New Rochelle, NY on November 4, 1926, the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Carron) Hanley. She grew up in Keene and was a 1944 graduate of Keene High School. On January 11, 1946 she married the love of her life, Earl G. Helie. After thirty-six years of marriage, the couple renewed their vows on August 18, 1982.

Eleanor worked at the MPB Corporation in Keene for 23 years. She was also a member of the Keene VFW Post #799 Women’s Auxiliary.

There was no greater joy in her life then being a Mom and “Gee Gee”. She loved spending time with her family. Providing a loving and welcoming home was something that she took great pride in. Eleanor also enjoyed being out in nature. She and her family camped every year at the campground in Richmond, NH. She is survived by her daughters, Karen Riesner of Claremont, NH and Cheryl Helie of Winchester; her son, Wayne Helie of Keene; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Gracie Burnell of Enfield, CT; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was predeceased by her husband; her step-son, David Michael Helie; her brother, Thomas Hanley; her brother-in-law, Henry Burnell; and her daughter-in-law, Marie Faucher-Helie.

A celebration of Eleanor’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019 from 2:00 to 3:00pm in the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court St. Keene. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

  David M. "Mike" Helie

David M. "Mike" Helie, 71, a life-long resident of Keene died on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at Westwood Care Center in Keene. He passed peacefully after a period of declining health with his family near.

David was born the son of the late Charlotte (Way) and Earl G. Helie on June 19, 1945 in Keene. He was raised by his maternal grandparents, Susan "Kitty" and Frank Way. He was educated locally and graduated from Keene High School class of 1963.

After high school Mike enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He served in the 8th. Infantry Division in Germany from 1963 to 1966 where he was honorably discharged.

On August 5, 1970 he exchanged vows with Sharon Walsh at St. Margaret Mary's Church in Keene. They were married with family and friends in attendance and have been married for forty-six years.

He was the owner and operator of a display supply business, selling in six antique shops including the Colony Mill Antiques. Prior, he had worked at Sears in Keene for twenty-five years. He was the manager of the Brattleboro Bowl from 1995 to 2000 and drove for Thomas Transportation.

He belonged to the American Legion Post 4 and the VFW Post 799 in Keene. He was also a member of the Pine grove Springs Golf Course in Spofford and was a part of the infamous Yankee Lanes Gang bowling team.

Mr. Helie is survived by his wife, Sharon Helie of Keene. Four half sisters, one half brother, several nieces, nephews, extended family and numerous friends. His close, special friends; Kevin and Amy Youngman, Susie (Abbott) Richards and his close half sister Sue Corliss.
