Ronald James “Ron” Dyer, 71, of Elm Street, died on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at his residence with his wife and sister by his side following a nearly 2 year battle with cancer. He was born in Ashfield, MA on January 31, 1939, a son of Theodore Donothone Dyer and Amy Estrella (Brown) Dyer. He grew up in the Berwick and North Berwick areas.

In 1956, he enlisted and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy.

Ron was employed as a lineman for 25 years with Wade Construction Company.

In 1977, he met his future wife, Loretta “Ann” Lee. They were married on September 13, 1986, and lived in the Sanford area for over 20 years.

Ron enjoyed hunting with his sons at their camp on Moosehead Lake. He was a former member of the Wells Trailblazers snowmobile club.

Ron was predeceased by his first wife, Carol Jean Dyer, his brother, Francis “Bill” Dyer, and by his nephew Theodore “Teddy” Dyer.

Survivors include his loving wife of 24 years, Loretta of North Berwick; two sons, Kevin Dyer and his wife Diane and grandchildren Shawn and Deanna of Berwick, Lee Dyer and his wife Elizabeth and their daughter Nicole of North Berwick; his step-son Mark Spencer and grandsons Joshua and Just, and granddaughter Jenesis of GA; two step-daughters, Robin Williams and granddaughters Jamie and Jessica of Milton, NH, and Cory Bernier and grandsons Jeffrey and Jerrick and granddaughter Jayde of Lebanon, ME; two sisters, June Letoile of Hampstead, NH, and Nancy Eldridge and her husband Russell of North Berwick; two brothers-in-law, George Lee and his wife Sharon of Roswell, NM, and Brian Lee and his wife Ida of Lubbock, TX; 6 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and friends.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Jill, Missy and Kayla from Sol Amor Hospice for their dedicated and loving care of Ron during his illness.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 21, 2010 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel, 36 Rochester Street, Berwick. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Berwick. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial donations in his memory to: Sol Amor Hospice, 100 Foden Road, Suite 200 West, South Portland, ME 04106; or the American Cancer Society, One Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086. Arrangements are in care of Laing-Bibber Funeral Chapel.
